Winter has finally arrived (at least for those of us living in the colder regions) and snow is on its way (for a select few). To celebrate this chilly winter weather, why not stay indoors and print a Swinging Snowman, utilizing a PLA Spring Motor style? Complete with hat, eyes, earmuffs, buttons, and a bow tie, this steampunk-inspired design employs a PLA Spring Motor (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:402412) and a clockwork-style escapement mechanism to swing the snowman for two minutes or more with each winding. No batteries, power supplies, motors, bearings, or bushings are required. A prototype video is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj2_3SADafo&list=UUv_zm49u-RjnCJVwhUO-ecA&index=1. This design was created using Sketchup 8 and printed in PLA on a Makerbot Replicator 2 with the Makerware 2.3.3.42 "Standard" setting (0.2mm layer height, two shells, 10% infill).
