Swing/Flip Top Easy Cap Grolsch Styled Converter for Longneck and Bomber Bottles
thingiverse
After growing tired of scouring homebrew websites in search of swing top bottles at a reasonable price and finding that shipping costs were way too steep, as well as all nearby homebrew supply stores being at least two hours away from my location, I decided to devise a way to rig up my own flip top bottles. This is the result of that effort. I also borrowed the hinge design from rohingosling's Parametric hinge. Breaking the hinge loose is optional, and I do not recommend it unless you're experiencing difficulty getting this around the bell and crown of your bottle. As for me, I managed to get this on a 12 oz amber bottle and a 22 oz bomber bottle that I found at a flea market. I've already received several likes and some people have added it to their collections, so I'm going to see if I can find a way to make it work with other types of bottles, such as soda and root beer, not just limited to glass beer bottles. If there's a bottle you would like this to work with, feel free to let me know and if I can find them anywhere, I'll grab one when time frees up, and try to adapt it to fit that type of bottle. I just tried it on a twist off Yuengling bottle as of the time I'm writing this update and it works well with them too, but it won't fit a Shiner Bock yet. 7/28/18: Came up with a new design. Thought it would be cool to have some kind of nicer looking design, something to be less bland, I guess. I figured it would be cool to have a barrel shaped piece on it, but it looks more like a Chinese lantern now, so I deem part 2 the Chinese lantern, Barrelv3_1. This is kind of entertaining, and may come up with something else too. I'm not sure yet. Also decided to make an attempt at an "economy" version, first version of it failed because there weren't enough hinges on and it broke after being opened and closed repeatedly. This one uses a lot less filament, 4g at 33 percent infill and .3 resolution, while serving the same purpose. Still works great on my 12 oz bottles, haven't tried it on others yet. The economy version has been flipped to print upside down to save on filament, and the rest print right side up. Be sure to take note of which side is the top, I accidentally put my "Lantern" one on upside down and it took me a few minutes to realize it. 7/29/18, I played around with a cordless drill, poked my finger a few times, but found what I believe to be the right measurement to fit it on twist off bottles that don't have the bell underneath the crown. Bottom hole works well for those. Will update with photos when I find out how those work.
