The Swedish Air Force built Bas 60 (Flygbassystem 60, Air Base System 60) to protect its aircraft from enemy forces during the Cold War. The system's core idea was to spread out aircraft and supporting ground equipment across multiple krigsbaser in the event of war. This strategic move aimed to make it extremely difficult for an opponent to destroy the Swedish Air Force on the ground, allowing it to stay operational even if things got rough. To achieve this goal, the air units were dispersed so that each krigsbas would only house one squadron (typically 8-12 aircraft). This dispersal principle was applied to each individual wartime base as well, meaning that the various functions of an airbase were spread out over a large area surrounding the base itself. The result would be a challenging task for enemy forces seeking to wipe out the Swedish Air Force on the ground.
