swap case for 65w macbook charger after wire replacement
thingiverse
MacBook charger cables are notoriously fragile, prone to breaking at the slightest provocation. The cost of replacing them can be prohibitively expensive, prompting many owners to seek out cheaper alternatives. However, even replacement wires come with a catch: installing them is no easy feat due to the original case's design, which renders it impossible to reinstall after disassembly. As a result, users are often forced to resort to makeshift solutions like tape or glue, neither of which provides a particularly sturdy or visually appealing fix. In an effort to circumvent this problem, I designed and built a custom case for my 65-watt charger, specifically tailored to fit the late 2012 13.3-inch MacBook Pro A1425 model. This new case not only retains the ability to swap out power adaptors but also features flaps that snap securely into place, providing a seamless user experience. While this design may potentially accommodate other models' chargers as well, I must stress that I have not tested it with alternative parts and therefore cannot guarantee its compatibility. To install this custom case, you will need 7 M3x25 bolts, which will inevitably increase the overall size of the case due to the added space required for these screws. Please note that installing this case may require some technical expertise, as well as access to a drill press or other precision tools. If you're not comfortable with DIY projects or lack experience with Mac repair, it's recommended that you seek professional assistance before attempting to install this custom case.
