Swansea Heads with geology layer

sketchfab

The rock platform at Swansea Heads is made up of a piece of the Boolaroo Formation from the Newcastle Coal Measures. It features sandstone (Warner’s Bay Member), carbonaceous shale, coal (lower and upper Pilot seams), volcanic ash (Reid’s Mistake Member) and conglomerate (Belmont Conglomerate). In this version, tree stumps are preserved in green and logs lie fallen in purple. A transparent layer representing the geology has been added with annotations. Although there is some debate about which part of the Newcastle Coal Measures is exposed on this rock platform, the nomenclature used here is original. The sequence dips at about 6° to the west (into the cliff). The outcrop pattern suggests minor warping around an east-west axis. Another version with a higher quality mesh and links to outcrop scale 3D models of stumps and logs is available elsewhere.
