Swans are members of the Anatidae family within the Cygnus genus. Their closest relatives include geese and ducks. In the subfamily Anserinae, swans are grouped with geese in the tribe Cygnini. Some classify them as a distinct subfamily, Cygninae. There are six or seven living species of swan in the Cygnus genus, along with one extinct species. Another species, the coscoroba swan, is no longer considered a true swan. Swans typically form long-lasting pair bonds; however, they may separate if nesting fails or if a mate dies. In such cases, the remaining swan will often find a new partner. The number of eggs in each clutch ranges from three to eight. Enjoy!
