The Swallow's Nest is a small castle-like structure located in Crimea, Ukraine. It was built in the late 19th century and has undergone several restorations since then. The building has been used as a restaurant and has also served as a filming location for several Soviet films. The Swallow's Nest is considered a symbol of the Crimean coast and is featured on the coin of the National Bank of Ukraine. The structure was built in 1912 by Leonid Sherwood, son of Vladimir Sherwood, who designed the State Historical Museum on Red Square. The general responsible for designing the building is still unknown. The Swallow's Nest has undergone several restorations since its construction, including a major restoration project in 2011 that cost 1,200,000 hryvnias ($150,000 USD). The Swallow's Nest has been featured in several Soviet films, including Desyat Negrityat (1987), Mister Blot's Academy (1983), and Mio in the Land of Faraway (1987). It was also used as a filming location for the 1983 Soviet-Polish children's film Mister Blot's Academy. The Swallow's Nest is located near the Tsar's Path, a scenic pathway that offers stunning views of the Black Sea littoral. The building is also close to the Foros Church, another popular tourist attraction in Crimea. The Swallow's Nest has been referred to by several names, including Lastivchyne hnizdo (Ukrainian), Schwalbennest (German), and Qarılğaç yuvası (Crimean Tatar). The building's design is unique and consists of a small tower with a pointed roof. The structure is made of concrete and has a monolithic console plate that strengthens the cliff on which it stands. The Swallow's Nest has been well-preserved and is still open to tourists today. References: * Ivchenko, A.S.; Parkhomenko, O.A. (2010). Ukrayina. Fortetsi, zamky, palatsy (in Ukrainian).
