SW - TIE/D Defender
thingiverse
The TIE/D Defender is the most advanced and powerful TIE Fighter ever created. Introduced in the Mission Pack expansion for the PC game TIE Fighter, it quickly became the go-to choice, replacing its predecessor, the Avenger. I've also taken a look at the official version from Fantasy Flight Games, but to be honest, neither that nor the blueprint model it's based on really cuts it for me - they just don't feel realistic enough. One major advantage of the Defender is its incredible speed, not to mention its robust shields, hyperdrive, tractor beam, and two powerful warhead launchers. However, one thing was missing: space to accommodate all these features. The original PC version came with a hull that could carry everything, but the FFG model didn't quite have that luxury. Undeterred, I decided to create my own TIE/D Defender based on the original PC version, drawing inspiration from fractalsponge's even more impressive model. Model 1 is a straightforward design, while Model 2 includes some additional features: a pin holder and support bar in the wings to prevent deformation during printing - something that was a problem with the first test print. To match my other showcase models, I scaled it down to 1:270. The result? A successful print, with a photo to follow.
