SV06+ Filament Runout Sensor Mod

SV06+ Filament Runout Sensor Mod

I've had my SV06+ housed in an old data cabinet. The orientation I have it in means I don't have headroom to allow for filament to be loaded above the printer. This mod relocates the SV06+ filament runout sensor to be attached to the X-carriage. Once printed, you will need to complete the following steps. 1. Use 2mm drill to carefully drill out the filament hole. Do from either side, don't try all the way through. This is just to ensure hole roundness - even with supports I found that there was small nubs in the print that could present extra friction. 2. Use pliers or a spanner to tap and fit the bowden coupler. The thread is coarse enough that it taps itself, and you should be able to seat it right down snug to the top of the case. Do not overtighten, or you'll strip the thread. 3. Carefully tap the two PCB mounting holes of the case with an M3 tap. Ensure you know how far the tap will descend, you don't want to punch through to the other side. 4. Superglue the case to the bracket. Ensure that it is straight and as snug a fit as you can for a straight filament path. Use water or spray accelerator to help speed the process. 5. Fit sensor PCB inside case. Place lid into bevelled groove before snapping down into place. The back tab of the lid should align with the case's corresponding hole, and close the gap around the PCB plug. Use M3 countersunk screws to fix in place, ensure a snug fit to avoid movement of the slotted PCB. 6. Remove the rubber dust cover from the Z extrusion that is hiding the filament runout sensor cable, and pull the cable free from the channel. Plug in to the sensor PCB, and use filament to test if the microswitch is being engaged properly. A green light shining through the case side will indicate success. Adjust PCB position and use M3 bolts to clamp in desired place if required. The cable is fine to dangle freely in air. 7. Use bolts to secure the complete assembly (via holes in bracket) through the top holes in the X carriage Tools/materials required: - 1x PC4-M6 - PTFE bowden fitting - Length of PTFE tubing to go to your filament box - 2x M3x12-14mm countersunk bolts - 2x M3x10-12mm button head bolts - need to be slightly longer than stock bolts to cover extra distance of bracket - M3 tap - Superglue - Spanner/pliers
