Suzuki DP-1000 hinge base for piano key
thingiverse
This project started after a print of danger099's hinge proved to have a noticeable difference in key action than the OEM hinge parts. This was due to liberal tolerances in the central spindle as well as the clip tabs. In order to create a better hinge, I build a model in OpenScad and then printed several iterations, in each instance tuning parameters such as tab size and location, as well as the diameter of the central spindle. The result was a tight fitting hinge that played almost identical to the OEM keys. This repair will fix keys that hang low and when raised manually continue to drop back low again (if they stay at normal heigh until played again, then it is the ace rod). Picture shows on right the broken OEM hinge, and the printed 3D replacement on the left.
