The Syuyumbike Tower is located within the Kazan Kremlin complex and bears the name of the ruler of the Kazan Khanate of the 16th century. It is easily recognized among other monuments: a 58-metre building made of dark orange bricks with a gilded crescent at the top. The Syuyumbike Tower is one of the ‘leaning’ towers of the world: it bears an almost two-metre slope, leaning in the north-eastern direction. For many years this tower has been considered as a symbol of Kazan, like St Basil's Cathedral in Moscow or the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
