Surgical Mask Comfort Tent Adapter
thingiverse
I'm fortunate to reside in a location where disposable surgical masks are readily available and mandatory in public spaces. Prolonged use of disposable surgical masks or intense physical activities that necessitate heavy breathing often cause the inner layer of the mask to become saturated with saliva, resulting in it sticking to your nose or mouth, thereby restricting airflow over time. To address this issue, I designed an adapter known as a 'tent' that fits snugly into the uppermost crease of the surgical mask. When worn, the top curve of the adapter rests on your upper lip, below your nose, and the 'tent' effectively lifts the lower middle portion of the mask away from your mouth. The fit of the mask remains uncompromised as the adapter is entirely contained within the protective layer of the mask. Updates: 28th June 2020: I replaced the STL file with a modified, thicker version that will print more accurately. 4th July 2020: I added "New Mask Adapter 3 Thickened 55_55_70.stl" which is pre-scaled to normal size for immediate slicing and printing. 13th Sep 2020: I added "New Mask Adapter 4 Thickened" a boundary-filled, solid, and unscaled version for those who wish to remix the design. 30th Sep 2020: I added "PLAMaskLargeV4_558060.gcode" which covers the entire area from below the nose to the chin. This design is more comfortable during physical activities as it provides three contact points with the face, ensuring stability. Feel free to experiment with scaling the dimensions to suit your needs.
