Сurgical chisel is used for orthopedic operations, osteosynthesis, treatment of osteomyelitis, operative treatment of false joints and infected false joints with concomitant bone osteomyelitis. The handle, arm, working part equipped with a cutting edge, are the main parts of the chisel. Its unique feature is the reverse hammer principle that allows applying force to the sliding hammer without hitting it directly from the outside. This reduces the risk of damage to soft tissues and unnecessarily large splitting of bone fragments. The working part consists of a rod with a tip, which serves as a guide for the sliding hammer. After applying force to the hammer and moving it along the rod, it strikes the shoe, transmitting the impact force through the rod to the cutting edge that cuts into the bone tissue and splits the fragment, giving it a pointed shape. This technique is used at Ilizarov Centre for processing the back edge of the bone fragment safely and efficiently.
