Surfboard Modem Cover
thingiverse
The lights on my new Motorola/Arris Surfboard SB6141 Cable Modem are exceptionally bright! I specifically designed this cover to slide seamlessly onto the front and share the exact same form factor as the modem's body itself. I still wanted to see the lights but significantly dimmer, so I employed white filament (ABS), 100% infill, and built it at a thickness of 2mm. In complete darkness, I can still easily discern the activity light flashing and the send/receive lights are very faintly visible. I've included the quickly created openSCAD file in case anyone would like to experiment with it. Printing it thicker or in black should ensure that you won't see the lights at all at night. I'm assuming this design could also work well with the SB6121 cable modem. The SB6183 appears to be slightly wider, so some modifications will likely be required. EDIT: user Zen1 informs (as reported in comments) scaling the width up to 116% accommodates the SB6183 perfectly. EDIT: user jabu32 reports that this design will fit the SB6190 without any need for adjustments.
