Surface Pro external cooler
thingiverse
Summer arrives! The air is scorching hot and my Surface Pro 3 is feeling it too. When my CPU overheats, its frequency plummets from 2.6GHz to a sluggish 1.85GHz or lower, severely slowing down my computer. I'm on the hunt for an external cooler, but finding one that's affordable, compact, or appealing is proving elusive. I decided to take matters into my own hands and design my own custom cooler using 3D printing! To get started, you'll need: * Two 40mm 5V DC fans (Sleeve Bearing fans are a great option - they're cheaper and quieter than Ball Bearing fans) * A USB power meter * Four or eight M3 screws * Two 40mm fan guards (you can find plenty of designs on Thingiverse, but I prefer metal ones for added durability) * Some basic tools and cables * A bit of electrical knowledge and soldering skills to bring everything together This custom cooler fits my Surface Pro 3 perfectly - not too snug, yet secure enough that it won't fall off even when I'm using my tablet upside down. It should also work seamlessly with the newer Surface Pro 4 models or later, although you may need to make some minor adjustments due to their slightly thinner design. By the way, your support means a lot - thanks for being part of this community!
