Surface Pro 4 - Camera Cover (Hinged)
thingiverse
I really wanted to retain the functionality of facial recognition on the Surface Pro 4's front camera, so I designed a camera cover with a hinged mechanism that flips up for login and down for privacy. It's compatible with tempered glass screen protectors and only adds a minimal increase in thickness when the keyboard cover is closed. I printed it with no supports and snapped the hinge into place by slightly flexing the non-tabbed piece, which helps get it into position. To attach it to the SP4, I used hot glue or double-sided tape, but may come up with a better way to do it in the future that doesn't affect the metal case. If you have any suggestions for improvement, I'd love to hear them! I'm also thinking about making a version with an inserted pin for the hinge mechanism and maybe improving the attachment to the SP4. I printed this design on my LulzBot TAZ 5 using ABS material without supports, which works great. The resolution doesn't really matter, but .2mm looks nicer with a smoother rotation. To assemble it, just snap the two pieces together - they're thin enough to flex and get into position. I designed this in SketchUp after a few revisions.
