Surface Mount (SMT) Tweezer Probe Set

Create SMT tweezers-electrical probes with these steps! This set of instructions will guide you to make surface mount component measuring tools either in or out of circuit. The tweezers act as electrical contacts, typically used with digital multi-meters (DMM) but can also be employed with an oscilloscope when using a different connector. To begin, print two copies of the "SMT Tweezers.stl" file on a 3D printer. Then, cut a strip of metal measuring 0.80mm thick x 6.3mm wide and 60 mm long. This forms the electrical contacts. Clip one end into a point, sand one side taper of each point for better contact when bent slightly. Attach coax (RG-174) electrical contacts to metal strips, keeping solder contacts small for fitting into gaps in plastic "V". Insert metal strips with wires attached into the center slots of each leg on the first plastic "V", ensuring wiring exits through the intersection opening. Slide the second plastic "V" over the exposed metal strips and press together. Glue components together for stability, adding glue in electrical connection section as strain relief. Adjust bend angle and gap to achieve desired open position with tips touching; file tips into clean points when closed. Add red and black shrink tube (black on shielded tip) to identify polarity before attaching desired connectors. Finally, your SMT tweezers-electrical probes should resemble the provided photos.
