Support to attach a webcam to a microscope

thingiverse

This is a universal adapter to attach a webcam to the eyepiece of a microscope. It was created to students follow the analyses and interpretation of histological slides simultaneously with the advisor. We have tested this support using Nikon (Eclipse EOS E200) and Zeiss (Standard 25 ICS) microscopes. Instructions: the internal cylinder can be turned under the external cylinder, so that the length of the adapter can fit onto the length of the eyepiece. NB: The diameters of the internal and external cylinders can be changed in Fusion 360 to fit the external diameter of the eyepiece cylinder, depending on the microscope being used. Further instructions on how to secure the webcam in the external cylinder are shown in the included pictures. We used a wireframe to hold the camera in place, but other materials can be used. We introduced a cheap magnifying lens (macro), under the aperture of the webcam, to magnify the image from the eyepiece. The macro lens was from a set of lens sold to attach in mobiles (https://www.amazon.com/iPhone-Ailun-Universal-Samsung-BlackBerry/dp/B01E18OYVW/ref=sr_1_11?dchild=1&keywords=lens+for+mobile&qid=1628524979&sr=8-11) or (https://www.amazon.com/KINGMAS-Universal-Samsung-BlackBerry-Smartphones/dp/B00FTSG35E/ref=psdc_15124502011_t2_B01E18OYVW). This project was developed at Instituto Butantan (Laboratory of Pathophysiology, São Paulo-SP, Brazil) by Dr. Marcelo L. Santoro, MSc. Ana Teresa A. Sachetto, Ms. Neusa Tadeu P. Picon, Ms. Camila B. Morgado (who designed the support in Fusion 360). The project also had the kind help of Mr. Danilo Moreira Neves who helped Ms. Camila B. Morgado to design the screw in Fusion 360. We also thank the financial support from FAPESP (2019/07618-6), which provided grants for purchasing the Creality Ender 3 v2 3D printer.
