Structure of a supernova remnant at 500 yr. The green contour shows the edge of the ejecta (contact discontinuity), subject to the Rayleigh-Taylor instability. The translucent purplish inner and outer contours mark the position of the reverse and forward shocks. Another version shows only one octant to better see the layering.
