The supermicro H8QGI server was incredibly loud due to its fans spinning like a jet engine at full throttle. To alleviate this issue, I designed and printed custom ducts with space for 120mm fans where the original fans were located, resulting in a significant noise reduction of around 20dB. Viewers can witness the transformation firsthand by checking out this video showcasing the before-and-after results: https://youtu.be/Xt5IeJkfA-s Initially, I believed I was designing these ducts for 120mm fans; however, it turned out that they were actually optimized for 140mm fans. Fortunately, my ML120 fans from Corsair still work flawlessly in the custom ducts, but I may need to drill additional holes to ensure a secure attachment. A word of caution: While the design theoretically supports 140mm fans, I have yet to test their installation with this size of fan.
