SuperMicro CSE 846 fan hotswap holder FAN-0127L4
thingiverse
This fan hotswap holder fits a normal 80mm computer fan into the middle chassis fan slots in a SuperMicro CSE 846. I created this to replace the loud factory fans part number FAN-0127L4. The fan can be oriented either way if you would rather blow air towards the front of the case. Your 80mm fan's center-most 4-pin guide rail will need to be clipped so that it fits in the server's hot swap 4-pin slot. I then recommend folding the excess fan cable into the clip on the top. Refer to pictures for which guide rail to remove from your 80mm fan and how I folded the excess cable. The process is identical even if you orient the fan to blow towards the back of the case. You may note that there is no snap-in clip forcing the holder in-place like the FAN-0127L4 has. This is for two reasons: 1) it did not seem necessary as the holder is kept in place with friction from the sides and 4-pin alone and 2) there was no way to design the snap-in clip that would allow it to be printed without supports. Perhaps in a future revision a support could be designed into the STL that you could cut off after printing. I designed this part so that it can be printed without supports. I printed it at 100% infill but I assume 20% would also work. It doesn't actually save much time since the design is mostly thinner walls. I'm also including two pictures of how I replaced the back-of-chassis 80mm fans in part number FAN-0125L4. You simply unscrew and replace then fan, then remove the retaining bracket holding in the 4-pin. A dab of hot glue to keep the 4-pin in place and a zip tie to tie off the excess cable helps a lot.
