#Supermarine Spitfire F.Mk IXC Profile ##Creating a 3D Desktop Model from a 2D "Top View" Profile This approximately 1:72 scale model honors the legendary RAF Wing Commander James Edgar 'Johnnie' Johnson, who became the top RAF ace of the Second World War with 38 confirmed kills while flying exclusively in the Supermarine Spitfire. Two color profiles have been included with this model: - *EN398.* Serial Number EN398 was Johnson's aircraft during early 1943. In this Mk IXC, Johnson shot down 14 enemy aircraft. The camouflage scheme represents RAF Fighter Command day pattern of Ocean Gray and Dark Green upper surfaces with Medium Sea Grey undersurfaces and Sky Blue spinner, fuselage band, and unit code letters (JE-J). - *MK392.* During June 1944, in anticipation of the Normandy invasion, Johnson's aircraft was painted with black and white 'invasion stripes.' While flying serial number MK392, Johnson claimed 12 aerial victories against German Fw-190s and Bf-109s. Johnson's final kill was in MK392 on September 27, 1944. After retiring from the RAF in 1966, Johnson founded the John Johnson Housing Trust, a non-profit humanitarian effort that built more than 4,000 homes for people with special needs. Enjoy.
