Superman is a legendary figure, created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster. First appearing in Action Comics #1 on April 18, 1938, Superman has become an iconic character. He regularly features in DC Comics publications, as well as numerous radio serials, movies, and television shows. Born on the planet Krypton, Kal-El was given this name at birth. His arch-nemesis is Lex Luthor. Superman often appears alongside other DC Universe heroes like Batman and Wonder Woman. Superman has become synonymous with the superhero genre. He popularized the concept of superheroes and established its conventions. Other characters are judged by how closely they resemble the standard set by Superman. As one of the best-selling comic book characters, he remains a beloved figure in popular culture.
