Super8 to 8mm Film Reel Adapter
thingiverse
It's been ages since I've touched anything remotely related to films, but my girlfriend is an archivist, and she made it her mission to get me involved in a project for once. Specifically, this little adapter was on her shopping list, a real throwback that was abundant just a few years ago but has become incredibly scarce. Interestingly enough, the market value of 8mm equipment is remarkably lower compared to its Super8 counterpart when it comes to eBay bidding. And whereas it's easy to find Super8 films in bulk at flea markets or thrift stores, rare finds like these can command serious dollars - but then there's also that one person selling the identical adapter for next-to-nothing. So basically, she had a splicing stand and an abundance of leftover 8mm footage that would be absolutely perfect to put onto Super8 stock for posterity. I just slapped this bad boy on my trusty old Replicator, cranked it out in one shot with nary a hiccup, not even so much as an eyelid flicker to give away the slightest imperfection. That was pretty cool if I do say so myself. But seriously, though: for any folks wanting a bespoke print for their printer of choice? Open that SCAD file, knock some parameters down and fire up that sweet sweet CAD software magic and tweak it as needed - you get your own, tailored fit!
