Super73 ZX Controller cover
thingiverse
I've yet to buy (or print?) fenders for my ZX, and found that minor puddles and sploshes wet both my bum and the very sensitive control unit under the seat. Now, I'm sure the connectors and enclosure were designed to get a bit damp, but I wanted to avoid having to clean this part of the bike, and avoid potential damage from debris spray. So, I designed this! It screws right into the rear bracket beneath the seat and supports the cabling enough that nothing rattles. I used the same m5 screws that go into water bottle brackets with some washers and nuts, but the screws will screw into the plastic just fine. I placed a cool hexagonal pattern on the bottom to make it look somewhat like carbon fiber. After a long hard ride in the sweltering heat of Denver (~95F) the controller didn't feel much more than a bit warm, and this design allows for some airflow through the cage to keep it cool. So far, so good! Once my current print has failures I'll come remedy them, I've already seen some design errors on the interior of the print, nothing that really matters yet. I don't expect a very long lifespan for PLA on a bike, but maybe I'll be surprised. Feel free to improve this as you please, just be sure to remix this so I can find the improved designs! Together we can print better mods for our bikes :)
