Super Sweet Cupcake Planter

for Succulents and other houseplants

The big idea

During the pandemic i got into succulents as easy care, easy to propagate houseplants and as I propagated and acquired more I needed to ways to hold them, help them, care for them.

The Super Sweet Cupcake planter design takes inspiration from the sweets we sometimes crave. Theres an quality to succulents which reminds me of cupcakes and candies - symmetry, the frosting on leaves, the pastel colors like frosting. I had this idea to make a succulent look like a cupcake since succulents are often grown side by side in a grid or tray, lined up on a table or windowsill and I dug the idea of small and varied succulents as a tray, line or box of succulent “flavors”

The design and functional details

I've included a few versions of the planter here to accommodate user preferences and printers.

In Vase mode, the design will print with a pretty good sized drainage hole if you tweak your # of bottom layers depending on the line height you're using… if its still printing solid try reducing bottom layers until the drain hole shows up in slicer preview.

A vase mode drip tray model is also offered here.

In standard mode printing i've included a thick wall version that results in a much sturdier final product, some growers prefer a more substantial feeling planter so we have the same design offered as a standard model with matching drip tray.

There's a drainage grid disc that can be placed in the bottom of either pot design to ensure drainage is effective (succulents and cacti need great drainage) while preventing soil and gritty mix from dropping through that large hole. The disc will work with either version of the super sweet cupcake planter

Lastly, for those who want to use these planters for another purpose, or don't require drainage in the pot (a bud vase maybe? artificial flowers, etc) I've also included both vase mode and thick wall models without the drainage and a solid bottom instead.

Printing the models.

Nothing too special here, I've printed the examples here with a 0.6 nozzle using 0.2mm line height - normal standard quality settings on a calibrated and tuned Artillery Genius Pro.

The rainbow example here was printed in vase mode with a 0.6 nozzle on a tri-color satin material - with the ridged and boxed edges of the super sweet cupcake “wrapper”, both duo- and tri-color materials should really show some nice effects.
