Super Mario Ocarina
thingiverse
This Mario head is actually a functional ocarina, allowing you to play the iconic Super Mario theme song. Watch the YouTube video to see it in action: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcqg2GHIsPE. For instructions on how to play, check out the screen capture image below. The image shows four holes, with the bottom section displaying open and closed finger configurations for each hole. To print this model successfully, ensure you cut it in half along the original printing direction. Otherwise, the wedge in the fipple may be damaged when removing support material. We designed this ocarina using PrinTone, a software we've developed from scratch. With PrinTone, users can transform any shape into a playable wind instrument. The software predicts the tone of the instrument interactively while adjusting finger hole sizes and mouthpiece location. It features accurate acoustic simulation, allowing for optimized hole sizes to achieve target tones. Check out our project page to learn more: https://www.autodeskresearch.com/publications/printone. Watch the YouTube video showcasing PrinTone's capabilities: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWHYLqcCPuU. This technology will be showcased at SIGGRAPH Asia 2016 in Macau.
