Super Customizable Lego Technic Beam

Super Customizable Lego Technic Beam

My son and I have a blast building with the EV3 Lego robot set, but I've always felt like it needs a stronger frame for connecting motors and sensors to the control module. I found Steve Medwin's incredible Customizable Straight Beam for LEGO Technic on Thingiverse and started experimenting with making L-shaped holders. After some trial and error, I discovered Sam Kass' improved model, Even More Customizable Straight Beam for LEGO Technic. These designs are amazing, and I'm grateful to Steve and Sam for their outstanding work, but they only create straight beams, which wouldn't give my frame the stability I need. I wanted to explore making more complex shapes, so this is my first attempt at doing so. You can use this to build L, T, #, or square brackets. Simply specify the types of holes on the vertical and horizontal beams as round holes (using a lowercase letter "o") or notched axle holes with the "+" character. Any other symbol will create an empty space, and I've been using x for clarity. I'm far from finished with what I want to build, but I thought this was useful enough to release now. __v 0.2 update (Jan 11, 2018) --__ I added support for creating intersecting beams with overhangs (#). I also cleaned up the code, which was embarrassingly bad in some areas. This version renders much faster, and the code should be more useful for building crazy shapes beyond what's provided here.
