Sunhokey Prusa I3 Compact Bowden Extruder, direct drive 1.75mm
thingiverse
The design for this project originated from Thingiverse user sunhokey, and is actually a direct derivative of the Prusa i3 model. It appears that the designer intended to simplify certain components while also enhancing functionality by introducing some innovative features not originally included in the standard Prusa design. This iteration includes an extruder head assembly mounted directly on top of the X carriage as opposed to being attached beneath it like the original, thus eliminating a layer of mechanical stress typically found with lower versions of the machine and making room for the additional upgrades to the motor driver system. Key Features include a custom 60:1 gearbox driving the Extruder gear. The Y lead screw also utilizes this custom geared system, which includes dual 45 mm diameter pulleys instead of traditional Nema stepper motors and 5:1 ratio leadscrew drivers. All axes operate independently controlled by dedicated motors that offer better positioning accuracy and precision. This modification significantly improves speed as compared to older versions since motor torque and current have increased respectively allowing the machine to achieve even higher rates without suffering from heat buildup within internal parts due especially where lead screws are located near heating chamber where maximum heat usually gets accumulated making further acceleration harder at first few runs resulting loss for faster productivity thus efficiency also affected accordingly so upgrading like this helps regain some lost edge.
