Sunglasses #2
thingiverse
I bought these super-cheap yet fancy sunglasses online last summer. The price was a dead giveaway: they didn't make it through autumn. The frame cracked, and the hinges started to come loose at the same time. What's more, they got stuck really easily - hard to put into words. However, the lenses were still in great shape. This was my chance to test that fancy 3D scanner I recently got access to. I took apart the frame, cut it in half (it's symmetrical), and coated it with chalk powder spray. Then, I scanned the half-frame and side-piece using the 3D scanner. The quality was good enough for printing, but it would take hours of work to get it scanned perfectly. Next, I created some hinges in blender that can be printed directly into place. To my surprise, they worked better than expected! One last thing: I'm not sure if this scan might infringe on someone's copyright, but I think it's just a harmless DIY spare part. If you're an expert in the law and know what you're talking about, please share your thoughts in the comments. edit: I made the hinges thicker and refined the mesh. editedit: I added a logo to the side-piece... why not?!
