This historic building, located within Xujiahui High School, is a notable landmark and cultural relic protected by Xuhui District authorities in Shanghai. This magnificent edifice originally served as the primary structure of Xuhui Middle School (previously known as Xuhui Public School) and boasts a history dating back to 1850, occupying a vast area of 38.6 acres today. On January 8, 1917, the first stone was laid for the construction of Chong Si House, with its completion achieved on June 20, 1918. A star-studded inauguration ceremony took place at this event, attended by Lu Yongxiang Songhu Hujun's top generals and the Qing Shanghai Shen Baochang prefectural governor. Sung Si Floor was conceptualized by a Belgian priest and architect, who presented an initial design sketch, described as "new school." The structure was later renamed to "Si Chong Floor" in 1992. Notably, this building features a symmetrical French classical architectural design with classic ancient Greek elements, a fusion of two distinct styles. Its exterior façade is composed of masonry materials, while its interior is constructed from wooden elements. Atop the building lies an innovative Spanish architectural style component, though it has since been demolished due to severe water damage in the early 1990s. Sung Si-floor's aesthetic appeal showcases an intriguing contour, complemented by an unequal and staggered design featuring open dormer windows in its lower section. Its upper area features more spacious openings, covered with slate gray roofing. Water-repellent bricks adorning its façade present a sleek gold-seam profile, broken down into five longitudinal sections. This creative architectural layout is accentuated by triangle shapes, curved window lintels, and intricately carved triangular designs across the building's facade. This historical structure contains an impressive hall with a dedicated auditorium on the upper level and a small performance space situated within its ground-floor layout. Chong thought currently utilizes this impressive edifice as home to various educational spaces, such as libraries, fine arts classrooms, a small office hall, and a music wing. In 2010, Chong Si House underwent a thorough renovation, breathing new life into the property while preserving its timeless character.
