Sundial in Tower Hill, London
myminifactory
The Sundial on Tower Hill was unveiled by Denus Tunnicliffe on August 3rd, 1992, courtesy of London Underground Limited. The sundial's time display deviates from clock time by a maximum of sixteen minutes. This discrepancy is known as the equation of time; to calculate accurate clock time during winter months, subtract one hour from the shadow reading. John Chitty, an architect, designed this sundial in collaboration with Edwin Russel, a sculptor, and Mike Duffie, London Underground's principal architect. The Sundial on Tower Hill is part of "Scan The World," a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access at no cost. "Scan The World" is an open-source community effort where individuals can contribute interesting items.
