Suncast Hose Reel Crank Replacement Adapter
thingiverse
I'm replacing this hose reel's broken crank handle with a new one, but it's been broken for years so the hose is left unspooled and I have to park my vehicle carefully around it. Since printing an entire replacement crank handle would require too much material, I decided to print an adapter that allows me to build a new handle using materials I already have at home like bolts, screws, PVC pipe, and elbows. Print Settings: Printer Brand: MakerBot Printer: MakerBot Replicator 1 Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: .2 Infill: 50% Notes: I printed this adapter in ABS with five shells and 50% infill. It feels incredibly solid, even though it's not a solid object. Since this part lives outdoors, I wouldn't recommend printing it in PLA. The caps aren't necessary but they're mainly for aesthetics; having the ends of the screws buried in plastic may help prevent rust. Post-Printing: Handle Assembly: To assemble the handle, you'll need to use hardware store materials that you already have at home. You may want to modify the part to use what you already have instead of buying specific parts. The pipe is 3/4" inside diameter and 1" outside diameter PVC pipe. I didn't measure the length of the original handle; I just held a piece of pipe next to the center of the reel, put tape at the edge, and cut it a bit short for the elbow. If you want the screw holes in the cap to align, leave about 9mm of pipe sticking out of the other end of the adapter. The screws I used were M4x12 hex cap, but they're not really necessary since the friction fit is tight enough.
