Sun Wukong, also known as the Monkey King, is a legendary figure born from ancient Chinese folklore that dates back to the Song dynasty. He stars in the classic 16th-century Chinese novel Journey to the West and appears in many subsequent adaptations and retellings. In the epic tale, he transforms into a powerful monkey born from stone after mastering Taoist techniques that unlock his supernatural abilities. After defying heaven's authority and being imprisoned beneath a mountain by the Buddha, he embarks on a perilous journey with Monk Tang Sanzang to retrieve sacred Buddhist scriptures from the distant "West". Sun Wukong possesses unmatched physical prowess, effortlessly lifting his massive 13,500-jīn staff weighing an astonishing 7,960 kilograms.
