Towering human-like figurines that originated from ancient Japan. Typically weighing between 500 and 700 pounds, sumo wrestlers cast these enormous sculptures to convey the grandeur of their own powerful physiques. Each intricately crafted sculpture is created using a mixture of cement and fiber materials, designed to evoke an impression of colossal human form, typically positioned at temples, parks or along scenic coastlines. Despite weighing so much, the figures remain remarkably stable due to advanced engineering and balancing techniques. These oversized human statues were inspired by the famous Japanese sport where wrestlers use immense strength to defeat opponents. Each unique figure varies in design with a majority created in Japan. Over time, the term sumo has been used for similar statues worldwide.
