Summer Infant Metal Expansion 6 Foot Wide Walk-Thru Gate (27284Z) Latch

I bought this "Summer Infant" gate several years ago. I actually use it as a pet gate rather than an infant gate. Overall the product is good quality and well designed, with the exception of the plastic latch. It was designed so that you can "lock" it to prevent your child from being able to pull the gate up to swing it open, but it was made from thin and brittle plastic, and I ended up breaking it within days of installing it. I decided my dog will probably never be smart enough or strong enough to lift up the gate, so I don't really need it to be able to lock in place anyhow, but the broken latch looked bad and had a sharp edge where it had been broken. I decided to design and 3d print a replacement piece to solve those issues.

If you happen to have the same problem with the same product, you will need to drill out the metal posts that connect the old latch to the gate, and find yourself some suitable bolts and nuts to replace them with. The top of the latch is a bit wider than the bottom, so your bolts will need to be slightly different lengths. Personally I just found two that were close, and cut them to size.

If this thing is useful to you, consider a tip!

Print instructions

Print Settings

Printer Brand: Anycubic
Printer: All-metal Mega
Rafts: No
Supports: Yes
Resolution: 0.2
Infill: 25%
Filament: 3D Solutech PLA Premium Real White
