A set of three coasters depicting Summer weather icons.

Select the one that matches the weather… or at least the weather you wish you had!

I have also created a compatible coaster holder, in various sizes, to help keep your collection tidy!

Models

The three models are:

Sun

Sun and Cloud

Cloud and Rain (aka British Summer :P )

As you can see from the photos, I have thoroughly tested them!

Print Dimensions

The coasters are 90 mm in diameter. The height of the main area of the coasters is 6 mm, with the total height being 7 mm to the top of the rim.

Coaster Parts

Each coaster has multiple parts that need to be printed. The colour combinations for each part are completely up to you.

If you have an MMU or other means of printing in multicolour, you can choose to print the entire coaster in-place. The parts are all correctly placed in the 3MF files.

Files

There are STLs for each coaster. I have included a 3MF file of each coaster with all the parts in the correct place/orientation.

The Rain Cloud coaster uses the same part for each of the rain drops. You will need 9 of these.

The Sun coaster uses the same two parts for the long and short sun beams. You will need 6 of both.

The Sun and Cloud coaster has separate parts for each of the sun beams. The STLs are labelled 1 to 8, from left to right.

The Beauty Ring and Cloud icon for all the coasters is the same.

You can use the 3MF to print all the separate parts in the correct order/orientation - it may be simpler than loading up each STL individually.

Material Choice

This is up to you!

I have been using many similar coasters for a while now printed in a variety of PLA and PETG filaments, and so far there have been no issues with heat. However, your mileage may vary.

Cold drinks will of course not be a problem.

Print Settings

No special print settings are required for any part of the coasters. I have tried to make even the smallest parts large enough to print without melting! :)

The settings I have used on my Prusa Mini:

0.15 mm Layer Height for the Base.

0.15 mm Layer Height with 2 Perimeters and 0% infill for the remaining parts.

You can visit my F1 Coasters model to see some suggestions on printing these models.

Assembly

In the Base there are small recesses for the other components to slot into. The primary purpose of these recesses is to make sure the parts are correctly lined up.

Here the recess is highlighted in red.

There is a 0.15 mm clearance in this recess that means the parts should slot in without much resistance. Some parts my snap into place but they aren't meant to be snap-fit, so needing a small amount of adhesive isn't anything to worry about.

There is no particular order to the assembly.

Post Processing

A clear coat can help finish off the look of these coasters nicely, as well as providing some protection against scratches and stains. It should make them easier to clean. I suggest getting a smooth finish with some sanding before coating.

Attributions

All the coasters were made using/adapting icons from Freepik - Flaticon
