Summer at the Louvre, Paris, France
cults3d
This artwork showcases a woman holding what appears to be summer's bounty. Created by Pierre Le Gros, a French-born artist who spent most of his career in Baroque Rome, this piece is often written as Legros today, though he signed it Le Gros. To differentiate him from his father, Pierre Le Gros the Elder, a fellow sculptor, he was sometimes referred to as 'the Younger' or 'Pierre II'. The dramatic flair of his work and its Italian setting make him more an Italian artist than French, despite being born in France. Although largely unknown today, Le Gros was Rome's top sculptor for nearly two decades before Camillo Rusconi surpassed him towards the end of his life with a more classic approach.
