The Gazelle SA 340 is a versatile five-seat helicopter built for light transport, reconnaissance missions and combat operations. Its single Turbomeca Astazou turbine engine drives it forward with precision. The Gazelle was the first of its kind to use a fenestron tail system instead of traditional tail rotors, giving it an edge in performance and maneuverability. Designed by Sud Aviation and later Aérospatiale, it was constructed in France and the UK through a collaborative production agreement with Westland Aircraft. Additional manufacturing under license took place in Yugoslavia at SOKO facilities and in Egypt by Arab British Helicopter Company (ABHCO).
