Subaru DL (EA81) Speedometer Needle
thingiverse
This is a replacement speedometer needle for my 1982 Subaru Brat DL, specifically designed for EA81 Subaru DL models produced between 1980-84 for cars and 1982-84 for Brats. The low-end DL trim level vehicles and Brats have a unique instrument layout that differs from the higher-end GL models. The speedometer needle for the DL models is remarkably thin, and after decades of exposure to the harsh Utah sun, the original needle in my Brat DL had become severely faded and warped. A perfect candidate for a 3D printed replica! Printer Settings: * Printer Brand: MakerGear * Printer: MakerGear M2 * Rafts: Yes * Supports: Yes * Resolution: 0.1 * Infill: 100% Notes: Supports may need to be manually placed so they support the entire length of the needle (see picture). To ensure easy removal, I recommend not placing supports too close to the middle pivot cylinder. Post-Printing: Remove the raft and supports, then grind down the back end to match the original needle's length. The hole for the pin in the bottom may need boring out with a Dremel to fit on the speedometer perfectly. How I Designed This: I modeled this replica in Autodesk Maya 2016 using precise measurements from my original warped needle. My goal was to create an exact duplicate, and I'm confident that it turned out remarkably well.
