The Sukhoi Su-27 Flanker is a supermaneuverable fighter jet developed by Russia's Sukhoi Design Bureau to take on U.S.-built fourth-generation warplanes like the F-14 Tomcat and F-15 Eagle in dogfights, capable of flying at 1,910 nautical miles with advanced electronics and powerful weaponry on board. The Su-27 is primarily designed for air superiority but has variants that can perform all kinds of combat missions from close-quarters battles to high-speed strikes over long distances. Introduced into Soviet Air Forces service in 1985, the primary job of this versatile fighter was defending against U.S. B-52G/H bombers and preventing enemy aircraft carriers from launching strikes near Russia's coast while also providing air escort for Tu-160 Blackjack bombers like the Tupolev Tu-95 Bear and Tupolev Tu-22M Backfire long-range strategic bombers. Many related models were developed off of this Su-27 blueprint including the two-seat, single-task Su-30 fighter jet with all-weather capability that could take down enemy aircraft as well as strike land targets at deep distances away; a side-by-side variant known as Su-34 "Fullback" or a twin seat, multi-purpose warplane for performing bombing and escort missions over hostile terrain - the so-called improved multi-role version Su-35 fighter.
