Sturdy keychain quick-release buckle
thingiverse
I really like mistertech's qucik disconnect keychain design, but found that every now and then it would detach while in my pocket or while being removed from my pocket. As a result I almost lost some important items several times. This design occupies almost exactly the same overall dimensions (size comparison in pics), but is virtually impossible to detach accidentally. Like a typical side-release buckle, it has two arms that must both be disengaged at the same time to detach. I took care to design it so that even if one arm is released and the entire thing is jiggled it still won't detach. The tradeoff is that it's a bit harder to attach and release than mistertech's design. I find it easiest to put the female part on the keyring I want to detach, then use the my fingertips/fingernails to release the arms while pulling down/away on whatever is attached to that keyring. Re-attachment can be done with a little wiggling and pushing, but is easier if you squeeze the arms inward at the same time. **Update Sep 2023:** Someone pointed out that the original parts can be separated with a strong tug without pressing the arms in. It requires enough force that I doubt it could happen accidentally during everyday use, but I've added `_sturdier` versions of both parts which resolve that issue for people who want to be REALLY sure they won't accidentally separate, even under unusually strong forces. - Note that the `female_sturdier.stl` file will work with either male file, so recommend printing that one instead of the original `female.stl` regardless of which male part you go with. **Update Nov 2023:** I noticed that the original `male.stl` file I uploaded was actually an earlier prototype file that was harder to release than the final design due to smaller protrusions. Replaced it with correct file that will match what's shown in the pictures. If you previously printed the `male.stl` part consider re-printing it now.
