Listen to the 3D Printing Today Podcast for more about this thing:

threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com

This object is a press on duct for a downward fan upgrade for the 1st production run of the Raise3D N2. Chances are later versions will have better downward fans, but for now the downward cooling and the extruder cooling is shared by a pair of box fans which put a light blow of uncontrolled air on the sides of the extrusion area.

Like my previous downward fan upgrade for Rep1 styled bots, this approach uses a radial fan which is attached with a velcro-like hook and loop system. See the links below for suggested sources for both the fan and the hook/loop stick ons. The Raise3D Break out board has a connector at the extruder already for the gcode controllable downward cooling fan. It is the right side connector in the yellow highlighted pair in the attached pic. You may want to secure the duct to the fan with CA glue.

Prior to installing this upgrade thin unsupported bridges in PLA would tend to curl upward. Once installed the upward curling stopped completely.

Fan and hook/loop: http://www.amazon.com/Connector-Cooling-Blower-50mmx15mm-Laptop/dp/B00MJU6JR2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1452571081&sr=8-3&keywords=50mm+radial+fan http://www.amazon.com/3M-Reclosable-Fastener-SJ3560-Clear/dp/B00JHKTDMA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1452571214&sr=8-2&keywords=plastic+hook+and+loop+tape

P.S. The remixes of this thing bolt the fan and the duct to the extruder. Doing this misses the point! Having it velcro on is the REAL advantage! You get it out of the way real fast and easy when you need to do work on the extruder and you get a lot more flexibility for positioning the duct. There is no advantage to bolting it to the extruder at all.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

MakerBot

Printer:

MakerBot Replicator 2

Rafts:

No

Resolution:

.2mm layer height

Infill:

10%

Notes:

I printed the duct with Bridge Nylon from Taulman and i also added a small piece of ceramic thermal tape on the top pf the duct by where it comes close to the hot block.
