At Jaulian, inscriptions embedded in the base of select stupas and chapels display the Kharosthi script, featuring donor names alongside their respective titles. The Kharosthi script appears to have been developed from Aramaic for widespread use in the Gandharan region, where a written element was lacking. These inscriptions highlight the significance of patronage in spreading Buddhism throughout the area and demonstrate the religion's broad appeal across various social segments. The North face of Stupa A15 at Jaulian boasts two inscriptions that reveal donor titles, providing insight into the social classes to whom Buddhism held importance. LiDAR and photogrammetric data for this project are accessible on openheritage3d.org.
