"Stubbs" & "Chubbs" Driver Bit Handles
prusaprinters

Introducing “Stubbs” and “Chubbs", my own design of driver bit handles that keep the bit securely inserted. A “retention finger” feature inside the handle keeps the bits from falling out.

It took 4 iterations to refine the retention finger to hold tightly without slop and the hex hole to fit nicely without too much friction for insertion and extraction. Of course performance varies depending on how tuned your printer is.

“Stubbs” is the bigger brother of “Chubbs”. Use “Stubbs” for a good sized grip and use “Chubbs” in tight spaces.

Note: if there is stringing inside the hex (likely) you may experience too tight a fit, so you can use a bit to insert/remove several times to help clear the stringing and loosen the fit.

Updated 5/16/2022:

There was a suggestion from @Tom in MN to make the hex receiver shallower to accommodate bits with shorter shafts. A v2 was added with 13mm from the face to the retention finger instead of the original 16mm. Overall length of handle unchanged.

Recommendations:

Print in PETG (if you use PLA, the retention finger might break)

0.2mm layer

3 walls, minimum

Top: 5 layers or more, bottom: 4 layers

Triangle infill, at least 20% (but you can try others)

If you like this model and/or add to your collection, please give a LIKE and some stars to help others find it.

Please also post a make, I'd love to see it!

Happy printing!
