I designed a quick-fit extruder that can extrude nearly anything: PLA, rubber, nylon, ABS, and HIPS - with just one printed piece adapting my Wood multitool for Prusa i3 use. The Dragon is printed using this extruder at a stunning 50-micron resolution. A hobbed bolt with an external diameter of 12mm for direct drive 2. Four M4x20 bolts 3. Four M4 nuts 4. Four M4 washers 5. Four M3x35 bolts 6. One hotend fitting snugly onto 18 or 16mm rod 7. One Nema 17 stepper motor 8. A fan with heatshrink tubing, similar to the one shown 9. Five eighteen-point-four-millimeter (slightly shorter) smooth rods 10. One sixteen-by-five-by-five bearing 11. One strong spring (available for purchase soon) If you'd like to create a magnetic quick-fit design: 12. Two six-by-seventeen millimeter metal smooth rods 13. Two twenty-by-three-millimeter tubes with five millimeter center holes containing neodymium magnets (easily found on eBay) 14. Two case fan screws To assemble it properly, check the upcoming tutorial. Settings to get started: - Set your Marlin extruder step/mm to 94 using one-sixteenth microstepping - Configure Slic3r to allow a maximum extruder speed of thirty millimeters per second; feel free to push it further if you provide more current to the motor - and I recommend utilizing DRV8825 drivers for smooth operation, as A4988 might not supply sufficient current to your 2.5A Nema 17 stepper at times.
