Structural linkage among single-chain silicates

Structural linkage among single-chain silicates

sketchfab

The defining characteristic of the pyroxene structure (single-chain silicates) lies in its chains of corner-sharing (Si,Al)O4 tetrahedra, which have a composition of (Si,Al)O3. The apical oxygens of these tetrahedra are shared on each side of a ribbon of MO6 octahedra, located at the M1 site. Additional information about structural connections among silicate minerals can be found at https://skfb.ly/6SBZu and https://skfb.ly/6Rt9V. Note: The color code used in these models is CPK.
