String / Sinew Puller Dowel - for Tie Dye
thingiverse
Dowel for securing sinew, twine, fishing tackle, and other materials used in tie-dye patterns or any other application requires a reliable tool like this one. The top section is designed as a tamp/probe to compact fabric or unfold pleats with precision. To maximize its strength, print it at an 80-100% infill setting. A layer height of 0.2mm or 200 microns and eight thick outlines per layer will ensure the string breaks before the print fails, although be cautious when handling the tamp/probe on top as it's relatively fragile. Below the dowel lies a hexagonal opening, ideal for attaching it to a drill for loading strings. Typically, these openings measure .25" in diameter; however, this design is set at .30" to account for variations in filament and expansion. Please note that the photos are being resized to a square aspect ratio, which might make the dowel appear shorter than its actual size. Refer to the model dimensions for an accurate understanding: it measures approximately 130mm when printed. Feel free to print and share your experiences by uploading pictures; we'd love to see how this tool performs in practice!
