String "Climbing" Ball

String "Climbing" Ball

Climbing Ball uses a dual spool design, similar to this thing: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1825987. In reality, it doesn't climb the string; it simply appears to do so. Consisting of eight unique parts (ten in total), Climbing Ball requires only embroidery floss for assembly. Once assembled, it utilizes the "String Climbing Mechanism" and demonstrates how similar toys operate, some of which date back over 100 years. As an added bonus, the lower ring doubles as a display stand to keep your Climbing Ball from rolling away when on display, as shown in the photograph. A video of the prototype is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bZZ2xgOE84. Designed using Sketchup Make 2016 and printed in PLA on an Ultimaker 2 Extended.
