Streamline Figure 12a Expiration
sketchfab
A highly detailed, interactive 3D scene on Sketchfab brings to life figures 11-12 from a groundbreaking study published in The Anatomical Record. Researchers RL Cieri and CG Farmer conducted an in-depth analysis of airflow patterns within the lungs of savannah monitor lizards (Varanus exanthematicus), as documented in "Computational fluid dynamics reveals a unique net unidirectional pulmonary pattern of airflow in savannah monitor lizards." To visualize their findings, whole lung streamlines were propagated both forwards and backwards from various locations within the 3D model. Each streamline is assigned a distinct color based on its velocity's cranio-caudal aspect, with blue hues indicating caudal flow and vibrant red tones signifying cranial flow.
